Rice Cereal
We started feeding Staley rice cereal this week. When he wants to eat, he looks like a little bird - it's adorable. No one told me: 1. Meals would take longer. 2. There is really no good way to get food from spoon into his mouth. He wants to grab it, or wildly moves his hands or head accordingly. It's a battle to have anything on the spoon when it hits his mouth. 3. Clean up is crazy - Luke fed him this morning. He had food in hair, on clothing, in the creases in his neck, and up his nose (this is all after Luke cleaned him up). Note to self, clean baby after Luke does it. I guess our house will never be clean again. Keeping calm and carrying on.

The Stats

Today, I took Staley to his 4 month appointment. Since I'm such a woose about shots, grandma Gentry came too. Staley weighed 15.11 pounds (he's in the 50th percentile), and he's in the 90th percentile for height. We got a good laugh over the height because all the men on either side of the family were ahead of the curve until high school and then never grew again - so, we are taking that with a grain of salt.
Staley gave a great cry when he got his shots and has spent the rest of the morning sleeping off the hurt. I think he looks a bit surprised when I went to wake him up.

Crazy Town
I debated writing about this but decided that living is about all the funny things that happen along the way and in your first year of parenthood you do A LOT of living.
Staley's teething. Now, even with the pain of teething, he's happy about 99% of the time. So the time that he's hurting and upset is really not bad. Sometimes at night before he's gone to bed, I've found that it hurts for him to breastfeed so, we give him a bottle and he's just fine. Normally, this is pretty easy to do - I just have Luke warm up the bottle and I sooth Staley by rubbing his gums with my finger. Last night, not so much - Luke was off at the grocery store picking up our weekly groceries (good man!). So this 2 person job, turned into a one person job.
Also, there was a pretty fun thunderstorm going on. This is where our house turned into crazy town. I totally forgot that Abby hates storms. I guess we haven't had a good one since Staley was born. Abby gets really anxious and needy. Last night, she wanted to be sitting in my lap while I was feeding Staley. She tried getting into my lap from the front and when that didn't work, she moved around the rocker to both the sides and the back trying to make a jump for it.
I hope someone above was watching because it was comical. We were one BIG happy and slightly shaky family in that rocker (Abby provided the shaking).
By the time Luke got home, the thunder had died down, Abby returned to as normal as she can be, and Staley was asleep. Thank god for a glass of wine and dinner with the hubby.
Not sure how long the teething is supposed to last. We suspect that his pain is being caused by his two bottom front teeth and that haven't yet broken the skin.
