Showered with gifts

We can't believe it's already time to start the baby showers but, with about 8 weeks left... we better get used to it. We feel so blessed and loved and can't wait for baby Bumm to get here. Thanks to family and friends... we'll be more prepared!

Pizza Party

We had a great weekend that started off with a pizza party at the house. I (of course) forgot all about the camera but did get some end of the night photos from friends. I think we all look great and all in our 30s!

I Passed!

The past couple of months have been full of tests that resulted in lots of phone calls from my physicians -- from finding out I've got Celiacs Disease to random retests... I know my OB's numbers well.

Today, I got the results back from my 3 hour glucose test from yesterday. I passed- no phone call. Tonight calls for a bubbly non-alcoholic toast!

I'm also excited because tonight starts off a weekend of fun. We've got family, showers, and the beach all over the next 3 days. I might be like a kid at Christmas... too excited to sleep. I'll try to post pictures from everything on Monday.

Living Gluten Free

I just got back from the dietitian this morning and learned some interesting things: Unsafe foods are wheat, rye, barley, and most oats.

The most interesting part of my meeting was that she suggested I get a toaster just for my gluten free food. She said that toasters are hard to clean and that are an easy place for "cross-contamination."

I was excited to learn that she, too, has a gluten allergy and after we talked for a while she was able to share her favorite cookie recipe (and which ones are the best prepackaged items). These things might seem a little strange to be discussed with your dietitian but, for a pregnant girl with a sweet tooth-- it's a must.

So, last but not least, alcohol. I can have anything except beer. Apparently it's processed so the protien is changes. Bring on the burboun (after these 9 months are up)!

Long Overdue

The pregnancy has taken a bit more out of me than I'd like to admit. Case-in-point: Liza's baby present is LONG overdue. Carson just got a new baby sister, Bryant. The both of them are cute as buttons. Click on this link to check out the cuties! Here are the dresses - finally finished. I'll see Liza this weekend and can't wait for her to get them!
Let's hope I can get Jacob Staley something handmade before he arrives!

Feeling a little large

I found this video today and it reminded me of what I look like (especially the part where she climbs in and out of bed).

Besides his incredibly high intellect

Our appointment went well today. They were able to tell us that baby Bumm weighs about 3.4 pounds and is in the 71st percentile. I'm still shocked that they can tell that stuff.

As for the rest of the exam, they still can't be sure that I don't have placenta previa - we go back to get another ultrasound at 34 weeks and we find out the results of my glucose test tomorrow.

We were sent home with some more ultrasound pictures... Unfortunately, they were the print out kind (none for the blog).

Today's a big day

Today, we get to see Jacob Staley Bumm - well, only via an ultrasound but I'm excited either way. My understanding (from parenting.com) is that he now weighs about 3 pounds. I was a little disappointed, I hoped that maybe the 22 extra pounds I'm carrying around were all baby but, I digress.

We, also, look to see if I have placenta previa - if so, they will schedule a C-section.

Finally the doctors check to make sure that I don't have gestational diabetes. In order to check for GD, I get to drink this lovely orange stuff and then they take my blood. Oh the joys!

I've been awaiting this appointment for most of the pregnancy. It's odd to me that it's arrived so quickly and quietly. From this point on, we will be seeing the doctors every 2 weeks. It's starting to feel very real.

Quick Vist

Last night, we got a call from my mother as she was getting off her flight from Wisconsin into RDU. "Are you up for visitors?" "Of course!" Within 20 minutes (enough time for her to get her luggage and dad to pick her up) -- they arrived at our house. It was a short stay. I think she just wanted to see the belly. These short visits are so appreciated.

Bathroom humor

The Bathrooms in this house are getting a big upgrade.

The downstairs bathroom was painted a while back in navy and white stripes. Last week when visiting Furbish, I came accross these fun plates. I decided that they might be exactly what I've been looking for to complete the look in our downstairs powder room.

Luke likes the plates but doesn't love them on the ceiling tiles. Oh well, I win for now. I think they add a bit of whimsey to the room.

The below picture is of Luke's fantastic job at crown molding in the guest bathroom. Doesn't it look wonderful? It finishes off the room that Baby Bumm will be spending his evenings in for bath time!

Houndstooth style

When we found out that we were going to have a baby -- we got to work nesting. Here are a few things that we've been up to....

We got new sitting room chairs. I found out after we got them that when the Bumms were about our age, they had a couch made out of the same over sized houndstooth. Mrs. Bumm even had a magazine spread shot at her house with a mother and daughter in kelly green sitting on the couch. Sounds SO cool!

We also took some of the scrap fabric and did a silhouette of Abby for the front entry way. Doesn't she look cute!

Breakfast

This morning started out with a shot at making gluten-free pancakes. Luke even liked them!
They were even light and fluffy. Maybe being GF won't be that bad afterall!

Thoughts

Most of the time, life is a bit of a blur - this week, I've taken the time to stop and appreciate what's all going on.
1. I like work and I LOVE the balance it provides in my life.
2. The crib arrived yesterday evening. Luke was MORE excited than he was when he got speakers... That's a pretty big deal. I'll be interested to see if he can wait until Saturday to assemble.
3. Even grumpy, my husband is the best, funniest, person in the world.
4. Being pregnant is this really hysterical time in your life where some people will say things like, "looking fatter," Hey bones, I could lend you my fat pants, I think it's time to get a larger size in your underwear... Somehow (for probably the only time in my life) I laugh instead of being offended. It's been very liberating.
5. I'm happy with where I am at the current moment. In life, that rarely happens. I'm embracing it. I have a feeling that in about 3 months, I'll miss this time. It's like the calm before the storm.

Family gatherings

We've had a great week of family-- it started out on Sunday with Luke's parents coming in town for breakfast. Luke is a really great cook but I think his specialties are breakfast, guacamole, and mexican food. Lucky for us, Luke dassled us with his breakfast making skills. YUM. Omletes - I didn't even mind cleaning up.

After breakfast, the Bumm's offered (and we accepted) to get us our crib! We ended up having to order it online but it comes today. I wonder if Luke will take off early from work to meet the delivery. All bets are YES!

The other side of the family (my parents), just got back from travel to France. Luke and I are going over to thier house tonight. I can't wait because besides Luke's cooking, my mother is the best cook alive. She promised to make some yummy gluten-free food for us and I'm sure she'll deliver. I can't wait to hear more about thier trip.

I never expected the pregnancy to be something that would help us to see our families more often but I'm glad it did. Our parents plan trips to see us a little more often and smile at my fast growing belly. These are memories that I hope I never forget.

Weekend Activities

Hello All-

Since this is my first post, I thought I'd let you in on some of the stuff going on in our lives.
1. Our family of 3 (Me, Luke, and our mutt, Abby) is soon to have an addition: Jacob Staley Bumm. He's supposed to arrive in Early November. This has added some extra activities into our already busy lives:

  • Luke is working on organizing and beautifying our home with paint, new shelving, and crown molding. I'll post some pictures of his successes. It looks awesome.

  • I've gained WAY more weight than I expected... Thanks to my mother, mother-in-law, and a bevy of friends... I look stylish. Tangent: Handing down clothing to the newest pregnant mother reminds me a little bit of passing down fake IDs when we were in college. Am I the only one who thinks this way?

  • We are working on a really cool nursery. We have some family and friends that are helping us beautify it... I'll post some pictures.

I'm not sure how this blog will evolve but for now... it's just a running dialog of thoughts and events that have helped shape our lives.

Thanks for listening-

Bets
